Beginner's Guide to Affiliate Marketing

Updated: Apr 10

Affiliate marketing has become a huge sensation since the pandemic and has drawn a lot of interest from people looking to make an extra buck. While it can be a fruitful venture, there are a few items of consideration that must be addressed before diving in. Many social media stars flash their accounts with large monthly deposits or their cars they bought from their affiliate programs. But, it is sadly more of an uphill battle than they tend to let on.

Now the question is 'what is affiliate marketing and how do I get started?' Affiliate marketing is when a person signs up for an affiliate link and makes a commission from the company who owns the product or service they are promoting. When signing up, they will provide you with a specific link that is yours. It is coded to track every click or purchase made through your link. The payouts depend on how the company set up their program.

A simple search on any search engine will yield multiple results where you can sign up to be an affiliate marketer. Once set up, things get a little trickier. The first thing to consider is the niche you wish to pursue and promote. This can be a tedious and time consuming task but when completed correctly the profits can flow. The next thing is budget; 'how much can you afford to spend on advertising?' Yes, advertising is a necessity when trying to make a living doing this. The third is finding the best strategy to deploy your new affiliate link. From there, it takes patience and practice. Like most good things in life, it takes time.
